Hi, I'm Ann, Founder of The Deutsch Teacher
I help English speakers just like you navigate the German speaking world with confidence!
With over 15 years of experience teaching German as a high school teacher, university lecturer, and online coach, I’ve helped hundreds of English speakers build real-life language skills and lasting confidence. As a former struggling learner myself, I know what works—and what doesn’t—when it comes to learning German. Through my experience, I've developed an innovative, stress-free approach to German that moves beyond traditional memorization techniques, in favor of natural language acquisition.
MY PURPOSE
I believe learning German isn't about being 'talented'—it’s about consistent exposure and having the right guide to show you the way. I am here to take the intimidation out of the process, replacing the fear of making mistakes with the confidence of real-world communication, because I know that anyone can belong in the German-speaking world if they have the motivation to practice and the support to keep going.
Willkommen! I am So Glad You're Here!
With over 15 years of experience teaching German in high schools and university, I’ve seen first-hand what really helps learners succeed… and what gets in the way.
Whether you're new to the language or picking it back up again, I know how overwhelming it can feel to start. That’s why I created a space where learning German feels supportive, encouraging, and yes — even fun. I’m here to guide you with a teaching style that’s focused on real progress — not perfection.
Here, you’ll find a guided path to understanding and speaking German with more confidence and less stress. I believe language is more than grammar and vocabulary — it’s about connection, belonging, and finding your voice in a new culture. At The Deutsch Teacher it’s okay to make mistakes, ask questions, and learn at your own pace — all while building the confidence to actually use your German in everyday life.
No perfection required. Just progress, with someone cheering you on every step of the way.
Here's What My Students Have to Say:
"I've really enjoyed my one-on-one lessons with Ann. She is very patient and explains things very well, even the weird edge cases of grammar when I come with weird grammar questions. A good safe place to learn German."
Ghi, B1 Student
"Ann's approach to teaching me practical German was inspiring and comfortable. She took the time to understand my needs—like learning key phrases for restaurant situations—and tailored her lessons accordingly. Her tips and tricks for language learning made the process feel much more manageable and enjoyable. I now feel significantly more confident using German in my daily life and accelerating my progress."
Lotta, A1 Student
"Ann is a fantastic teacher helping me build my German-speaking skills, and now I can do it from the comfort of my own home! As a student studying German in college, these lessons give me an opportunity to fine tune my skills, which I don't get in my uni classes!"
Sean, C2 Student
"After only three lessons with Ann I feel I have grasped a great foundational knowledge of the German language! Her teaching style is very impactful as a native English speaker given she is able to pull on her years of teaching experience along with her own experiences learning the language, I highly recommend her as as a teacher to anyone looking to explore learning German."
Kristin, A1 Student
"I've been taking 1-1 lessons with Ann and it's been such a great experience! The lessons are very personalised so I get to focus on exactly what I need to improve. Ann is really patient and explains things in a way that actually makes sense which has made a huge difference in my understanding. If you're thinking about learning German or want to improve I can definitely recommend these lessons!"
Diane, C2 Student
"I travel to Germany often and know a few basic sentences. In a very short time, Ann has helped me grow my vocabulary and improve my pronunciation. I’ve used online courses but having Ann to teach me one-on-one has made the most difference in the shortest amount of time."
Kim, A2 Student
