Here's What My Students Are Saying

I've been teaching German online for years, and a few of my students were kind enough to write a little about our time together. These are their words:

Ann is a wonderful teacher who focuses on important concepts and also at building confidence through reading, listening and speaking.  I have thoroughly enjoyed her courses and look forward to continue learning with her as I make progress in the German language.”

- Caitlin, Germany

“I thoroughly enjoyed Ann's teaching methods; her classes are stress-free, fun and enjoyable.  She teaches spoken usable German from day 1, the learning process is organic and natural. Ann is extremely supportive in your learning adventure, if you are a beginner, or want to improve your German, I highly recommend The Deutsch Teacher with Ann Krannitz.”

- Stan, US

The Deutsch Teacher is a must for those keen on learning German online! I found her lessons engaging, professional, and fun. Ann is an astute and passionate teacher, and her courses have inspired me to continue learning and speaking German. Highly recommend!

- Frances, Italy

"I've really enjoyed my one-on-one lessons with Ann. She is very patient and explains things very well, even the weird edge cases of grammar when I come with weird grammar questions. A good safe place to learn German."

- Ghi, Germany

“Thank you for your class! German isn’t easy, but your teaching style has helped me along greatly.  Classes are fun and challenging. I appreciate the real world German application and making me more confident in daily interactions! "

- Brianna, Germany

Ann is an excellent instructor. She is patient, encouraging, and motivating. She really gets to know you, so that she can tailor the course to your pace and needs. Instead of dreading my lessons each week, I look forward to learning more and more!

- Dana, Germany

"I was very wary to trust information that I saw on Instagram, but Ann comes across as very knowledgeable and not trying to do a hard sell, which made me feel very comfortable approaching her. I've studied a bit of German on my own and with a teacher in Germany for two weeks. Her class has given me confidence I didn't have before and as a former German teacher in the US, her understanding and guidance on the pitfalls that US learners have, is invaluable.

- Deena, US

"I am so happy I made the leap and took Ann‘s course! Adding the structure and guidance of an instructor-led course, the consistency of weekly classes, helpful practice ideas, insights from Ann, and the ability to ask questions when clarification is needed has been such a benefit to my language learning experience. Plus Ann is great and truly cares about your progress!

- Stephanie, US

“This course includes just enough repetition alongside new vocabulary and grammar to help everything really stick. The topics are easy to practice from anywhere with the online community. Optional “homework” gives you recommendations for extra listening, reading, and writing practice—so you can learn the way we naturally learn: not by making every word or sentence perfect, but by understanding the message (even if it’s a little messy).”

- Mary Peyton, US

Build on the Basics — 14-Week Advanced Beginner Course

You’ve got the basics down. Now it’s time to put them to work. Over 14 weeks, you’ll move from polite small talk to handling real-life situations in German — booking trains, talking about your past, navigating doctor’s visits, and more.

What we explore together in class

  • buying a train ticket and getting around Germany

  • asking for and giving directions

  • making a hotel reservation

  • talking about your daily routine

  • jobs and professions

  • common work and career conversations

  • talking about your weekend in the past tense

  • sharing the story of a past vacation

  • booking appointments and making plans

Same two-track structure as the Beginner course. Lesson topics serve as a guideline and may shift based on the pace and interests of the group.

You’ll finish the 14 weeks more confident in everyday German and ready to handle real-world situations — at home, at work, and on the road.

Take Your German to the Next Level — 14-Week Beginning Intermediate Course

You can talk about your day, your family, and your favorite café order. Now you’re ready to share opinions, tell stories, and handle more nuanced conversations. This brand-new 14-week course will move your German from “I can get by” to “I can express what I really think.”

What we explore together (topics may include)

  • giving your opinions (Ich finde, dass …)

  • writing reviews and sharing what you think

  • making a complaint (politely!)

  • talking about your childhood

  • telling the story of your last trip

  • dreaming in German with the Konjunktiv

  • handling difficult situations: lost items, refunds, mix-ups

  • making polite requests in German

  • writing a resume and prepping for a job interview

  • writing professional emails and messages

Same two-track structure as the other courses. As this is a brand-new course, the final lineup may be refined to match the group’s interests and goals.

You’ll finish the 14 weeks expressing yourself with more nuance, navigating more complex situations, and feeling far more at home in German.
